Our Story

The Okafor family and Monroe Street

Adaeze and Emeka Okafor opened Harvest Moon in 2009 when this block needed a proper grocery. Their daughter Nkechi grew up stocking shelves and now runs the bakery program. Their son Tunde manages produce buying, driving out to farms on Route 14 most Thursday mornings.

We partner directly with six Dane County farms — no broker, no warehouse. When Wingra Watershed has a flooding year, we adjust. When a farm has an exceptional crop, you’ll know the day it arrives.

“I’ve lived on Monroe for eleven years. This is the first stop after the farmers market on Saturday morning. Tunde always knows what came in from which farm — it matters.”

“We walk from the Dudgeon neighborhood every weekend. The sourdough sells out by 9:30 so we pre-order by phone. Nkechi’s muffins are ridiculous.”

“Grabbed picnic supplies for an afternoon at Lake Wingra and it was the best kind of errand. The deli turkey, the mustard, a warm loaf — perfect. Ten out of ten.”
